Use the InfluxDB v2 API with InfluxDB Cloud Serverless

InfluxDB Cloud Serverless is compatible with the InfluxDB v2 API /api/v2/write endpoint and existing InfluxDB 2.x tools and code. Use the InfluxDB v2 API for new write workloads and existing v2 write workloads that you bring to InfluxDB Cloud Serverless.

InfluxDB v2 API endpoints won’t work for managing resources or querying data in InfluxDB Cloud Serverless. To query data, use the Flight+gRPC protocol or the InfluxDB v1 /query HTTP API endpoint and associated tools.

Authenticate API requests

InfluxDB API endpoints require each request to be authenticated with an API token.

Authenticate with a token

Use the Authorization: Token scheme to pass an API token that has the necessary permissions for the operation.

The Token scheme is used in the InfluxDB 2.x API.

Syntax

Authorization: Token API_TOKEN

Use Token to authenticate a write request:

Replace the following:

  • BUCKET_NAME: your InfluxDB Cloud Serverless bucket
  • API_TOKEN: an API token with sufficient permissions to the specified bucket

Responses

InfluxDB HTTP API responses use standard HTTP status codes. The response body for partial writes and errors contains a JSON object with code and message properties that describe the error. Response body messages may differ across InfluxDB Cloud Serverless v1 API, v2 API, InfluxDB Cloud, and InfluxDB OSS.

Error examples

  • Missing bucket value

    400 Bad Request

    The ?bucket= parameter value is missing in the request. Provide the bucket name.

  • Failed to deserialize org/bucket/precision

    400 Bad Request

    }

    The ?precision= parameter contains an unknown value. Provide a timestamp precision.

Write data

Use the InfluxDB v2 API /api/v2/write endpoint for new write workloads and existing v2 workloads.

For InfluxDB Cloud Serverless v2 API /api/v2/write requests, set parameters as listed in the following table:

Timestamp precision

Use one of the following precision values in v2 API /api/v2/write requests:

  • ns: nanoseconds
  • us: microseconds
  • ms: milliseconds
  • s: seconds
  • m: minutes
  • h: hours

Interactive clients

To test InfluxDB v2 API writes interactively from the command line, use the influx3 data CLI or common HTTP clients such as cURL and Postman.

Client libraries

InfluxDB v3 client libraries and v2 client libraries can write data to the InfluxDB v2 API /api/v2/write endpoint. Client libraries are language-specific packages that integrate InfluxDB APIs with your application.

Query data

InfluxDB 3 provides the following protocols for executing a query:

  • Flight+gRPC request that contains an SQL or InfluxQL query. To learn how to query InfluxDB Cloud Serverless using Flight and SQL, see the Get started tutorial.
  • InfluxDB v1 API /query request that contains an InfluxQL query.

Tools to execute queries

InfluxDB Cloud Serverless supports many different tools for querying data, including:

Avoid using /api/v2/query

Avoid using the /api/v2/query API endpoint in InfluxDB Cloud Serverless and associated tooling, such as the influx query CLI command and InfluxDB v2 client libraries. You can’t use SQL or InfluxQL with these tools.

InfluxDB OSS 2.9.0: API tokens are hashed by default

Stronger token security in InfluxDB OSS 2.9.0 — tokens are hashed on disk by default. Existing tokens are hashed on first startup and can’t be recovered afterward. Capture any plaintext tokens you still need before you upgrade.

Hashed tokens authenticate exactly like unhashed tokens — clients and integrations keep working.

Key enhancements in Explorer 1.9

Explorer 1.9 is now available with InfluxQL support, an AI-assisted Flux to SQL converter (beta), and new live sample data simulators.

Highlights:

  • Flux to SQL converter (beta): Convert Flux queries to SQL with an AI-assisted converter.
  • InfluxQL support: Query data with InfluxQL in the Data Explorer and dashboards, and save and load InfluxQL queries.
  • InfluxQL visualizations: Render line and bar charts from InfluxQL results with per-tag series grouping.
  • Query error history: Review a history of query errors in the query tool.
  • Live sample data simulators: Generate continuous live sample data with new bird data and signal generator simulators.

InfluxDB 3.10 is now available

InfluxDB 3 Core 3.10 adds an automatic catalog format upgrade, a configurable query-concurrency limit, and processing engine improvements.

Key updates in InfluxDB 3 Core 3.10:

  • Catalog format upgrade: the on-disk catalog automatically upgrades from format v2 to v3 on first 3.10 startup. Migration is one-way—back up your catalog before upgrading.
  • --max-concurrent-queries: limit concurrent queries (adjustable at runtime).
  • GET /ready endpoint for readiness probes.
  • Processing engine: cross-database queries and trigger lockdown flags.

InfluxDB 3.10 is now available

InfluxDB 3 Enterprise 3.10 adds automated backup and restore, row-level deletions, and user management, with an automatic catalog format upgrade and performance preview improvements.

Key updates in InfluxDB 3 Enterprise 3.10:

  • Catalog format upgrade: the on-disk catalog automatically upgrades from format v2 to v3 on first 3.10 startup. Migration is one-way—back up your catalog before upgrading.
  • Automated backup and restore (beta)
  • Row-level deletions
  • User management (authentication and RBAC) — preview
  • Performance preview improvements

Backup and restore, row-level deletions, and the performance preview require the Enterprise storage engine upgrade (opt-in beta). Beta and preview features are subject to breaking changes and aren’t recommended for production use.

Telegraf Enterprise is now generally available

Telegraf Enterprise is now generally available, along with Telegraf Controller v1.0.

Telegraf Enterprise combines Telegraf Controller, a centralized management console for Telegraf, with official support from InfluxData. Manage configurations, monitor fleet health, and operate tens of thousands of Telegraf agents from a single system.

InfluxDB Docker latest tag changing to InfluxDB 3 Core

On September 15, 2026, the latest tag for InfluxDB Docker images will point to InfluxDB 3 Core. To avoid unexpected upgrades, use specific version tags in your Docker deployments.

If using Docker to install and run InfluxDB, the latest tag will point to InfluxDB 3 Core. To avoid unexpected upgrades, use specific version tags in your Docker deployments. For example, if using Docker to run InfluxDB v2, replace the latest version tag with a specific version tag in your Docker pull command–for example:

docker pull influxdb:2
