Command line tools

InfluxDB provides command line tools designed to aid in managing and working with InfluxDB from the command line.

influx - InfluxDB command line interface

The influx CLI includes commands to manage many aspects of InfluxDB, including buckets, organizations, users, tasks, etc.

influx completion

The influx completion command outputs influx shell completion scripts for a specified shell (bash or zsh).

influxd - InfluxDB service

The influxd service starts and runs all the processes necessary for InfluxDB to function.

Install and use the influx CLI

Use the influx and influxd command line interfaces to interact with and manage InfluxDB.

influxd run

The influxd run command is the default influxd command and starts the influxd server.

influx version

The influx version command outputs the current version of the influx command line interface (CLI).

influxd version

The influxd version command outputs the current version of InfluxDB.

If using Docker to install and run InfluxDB, the latest tag will point to InfluxDB 3 Core. To avoid unexpected upgrades, use specific version tags in your Docker deployments. For example, if using Docker to run InfluxDB v2, replace the latest version tag with a specific version tag in your Docker pull command–for example:

docker pull influxdb:2
